Product Description

When the weather is hot, cool down at the South Pole Drive-In in Orlando, Florida!

This penguin on ice skates, wrapped in a scarf and waving a banner to flag down motorists, was a menu cover in the 1940s. We love its charm and humor.

The South Pole specials included an ‘elite’ steakburger and ‘bird in hand’ fried chicken.

There were sandwiches, a Coke-and-pretzel combo and orange juice, fresh from local Florida orange groves.

The popular brand of Sealtest ice-cream was used at the soda fountain and The Penguin Special sounds delicious –orange, lemon and lime juices poured over ice and blended to perfection.

Drinks were priced from 10c and nothing on the menu cost more than 50c.

The South Pole Drive-In was owned by the three Crays brothers who advertised tasty, wholesome foods at the lowest price possible and fast, clean and efficient service. We don’t have any more information on the owners at this time.

There was another witty touch.

On the back of the menu, a penguin asked customers to tell their friends about the establishment, noting that the menu was ‘stolen from The South Pole Drive-In.’

This meant that customers were encouraged to take the menu away as a souvenir and pass it on to others, a practice encouraged by restaurant owners to help get the word out about their establishments.
